Faithwalkers FAQ

Faith Walkers FAQ’s

Is Faith Walkers accepting new families?

We are currently closed to new families at this time. We have made some new changes to our program this year and our number of participating families has grown and we want to evaluate how the program is going before we add to our numbers. We will be open for new families to join us in January. We will close when our classes fill up.

What will be the maximum class sizes at each grade level?

Class size will be limited to 15 students at each level. We feel this is a nice number of children to work with both for the teacher as well as for the children in the class themselves.

Do I need to register for each block?

Registration is required at each block so we can monitor class size as well as notify those families who are on a waiting list of openings.

Can I bring a friend on Fridays who is has not registered?

Anyone who has not registered may not participate in the program. A last minute addition may be disruptive to a teacher and the class for many reasons: some teachers have only prepared enough materials/supplies for the students on their class list, the weeks have been building on each other and that new child may have difficulty coming into a class that has already started, etc. There will be programs/field trips/picnics going on throughout the year where friends would be welcome.

What is meant by Faith Walker’s being a co-op?

Faith Walker’s is a teaching co-op in which the teaching load is equally shared. Each classroom will consist of one teacher and one or more assistants. All participating parents are asked to teach one class each week as needed as well as assist.

What should I teach? Could I just assist in a classroom?

Being a lead teacher is more of a responsibility and time commitment than assisting which is why we don’t want this responsibility to fall only on a few moms. We are asking all parents to take a leading teacher role and share whatever gifts, talents, or skills you have. All teachers will work with an assistant so there is help in planning the classes. The teaching topics can range from heavier courses to lighter ones such as: playing games, bringing in a speaker, etc. It’s your call!

What supplies are available to teach gym/movement?

Supplies are located in the storage closet in the gym. Some items we have are: balls, cones, bean bags, and a parachute. See Joy for a complete list.

My child would feel better if I stayed with him/her. Can I stay with my child in the classrooms?

Absolutely! If it would make your child feel better feel free to stay…and it would also help the teacher out having an extra pair of hands.

What do I do if a student does not want to participate in my class?

If a student still doesn’t want to participate in your class after you have tried encouraging them your assistant can take the child to his/her mom. It is too distracting for the teacher and the class to have a child sitting in another area while the class is going on. It also becomes a safety issue as supervision would be compromised. Please also see a copy of our discipline policy.

Who is allowed to use the Youth Room?

Pastor Steve gave permission for kids 12 and over to use the youth room during snack, before and after Faith Walker’s, and for a class.

Can my 12-up student opt out of a class and go hang-out in the youth room?

We do encourage all students to participate in each class as most teaching blocks are short enough only running for 3 weeks and all are sure to learn something by attending. If a student in that age level still does not want to participate in a class he/she is asked to assist in one of the younger classes. The youth room is not used in such instances.

If my children are under age 4 could I still join Faith Walkers? Is there a nursery?

Faith Walker’s is designed for children ages 4 and up. A nursery is available for infants-age 3 for teachers and assistants ONLY. When moms are teaching or assisting your child will be cared for in the nursery. When you are not teaching you will need to keep your child with you or are welcome to stay with your child and play in the nursery.

Can I drop my child off and pick him/her up at the end if I am not teaching?

Faith Walker’s is a hands-on co-op where all moms are needed each week. When you are not scheduled to teach you are needed to assist in the classrooms. Drop-offs are not consistent with the structure of our program. Special circumstances may arise when this may be necessary.

What do I need to bring each week?

Bring a snack and a blanket to sit on, slippers, sneakers for gym, and a box to keep your family’s shoes/sneakers in.
